WELLAND?-?

A golf course argument between two seniors nearly turned tragic earlier this month.

Niagara Regional Police say two 76-year-old men were playing golf at an undisclosed Welland course on July 10 when they became embroiled in an argument that quickly turned physical.

One of the men was taken to hospital suffering several broken ribs and a punctured and collapsed lung. Police said the man required immediate, life-saving surgery at the Welland hospital.

On July 16, police were called to the hospital to investigate the incident, and three days later ? on Friday ? arrested another 76-year-old man and charged him with aggravated assault.

Ronald Hannigan, of Pelham, will appear in Welland provincial court Sept. 6.
