The case of Business Advisory & Consulting Ltd is one of those where the entire cold call seems to be very dubious, but the setup is very well elaborated that it is easy for a consumer to fall for this!
Business Advisory & Consulting Ltd, cold calls timeshare consumers and claim to be working on behalf of the Home Office and Spanish authorities to find and return monies that had been fraudulently obtained by re-sale companies.
They provide the consumer with a business address: The Pavilion, Rosslyn Crescent, Harrow, Middlesex, HA1 2SZ,?and a Company registration Number: 06484635
And contact numbers 0203 2866 982 for Harrow, but also a number 0118 328 2238 for a ?Legal Advice Helpline? in Reading.
The people calling from Business Advisory & Consulting are Michael Curtis, Robert Manning or Maddox,?and Peter Curtis.
And then at the supposed Legal Helpline there is a lady called Kate Wood who backs up all that is said in the cold call and yes this company is genuine.
On the initial cold call they say they have identified that the timeshare consumer has paid a specific bogus resale company, they even know the exact amounts (!!), and that these monies have been sourced to a Moroccan Bank.
The next day the Timeshare consumer receives a follow up call and is told that the money seems to have been placed in a 10 year bond, but with the help of the authorities and a release fee this money can be recovered.
In order to pay the release fee the timeshare owner has to purchase UKASH Vouchers in the amount of ?500 and then the money will be returned through a DHL Courier.
Once the UKASH Vouchers have been purchased the caller from Business Advisory & Consulting asks for part of the voucher numbers, in order to verify they are real but supposedly without the possibility to collect them. Well wrong! Because the numbers they don?t ask for are those which identify the country where the voucher is purchased, and of course they know this is UK so they can ?guess? the complete coding and go and collect the money.
The timeshare owner will be waiting for the DHL courier and only realize afterwards that they have been taken for a ride!
The fact that Business Advisory & Consulting is claiming to be registered with the UK Companies House does not mean they are the ?real? company that is registered. So far no confirmation of this could be verified.
