Uno Chicago Grill and Pizza 4 Patriots gives U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan pizza for the Super Bowl

Super Bowl Sunday means more to football fans than just watching a game.

There?s food, drink, team decor and fun.

This year, thanks to the Uno Chicago Grill and non-profit organization Pizzas 4 Patriots, United States troops stationed in Afghanistan will be able to chow down while watching the game, just like their families back home.

For the remainder of December, Uno Chicago Grill guests can purchase a coupon book for $5 containing coupons for $50 in savings for the restaurant.

The money raised through the coupon book fundraiser will enable Pizzas 4 Patriots to deliver 10,000 pizzas to service men and women in Afghanistan in time for the big game.

Angela Bock, vice president of business development for Uno Chicago Grill, said the Deptford restaurant has the highest sales so far of the nine, state-wide Uno establishments.

?Deptford has the highest numbers so far and have sold over 300 books there alone,? she said.

The coupon books include deals such as $5 a meal, free pizza or free appetizer.

?With the passing of time, some Americans have shifted their attention from the conflicts thousands of miles away, but our troops are still there and we never, ever want to forget them,? said Frank Guidara, CEO, Uno Chicago Grill and a veteran. ?Uno can show its appreciation by sending them a taste from home, namely a deep-dish pizza. And we know it means a great deal to the troops, especially those that are in forward positions without the comforts of home available to them.?

Uno has helped Pizzas 4 Patriots to ship more than 50,000 pizzas to troops at various times of the year since 2009. That many pizzas is equal to 400,000 slices of pizza for more than 200,000 soldiers.

DHL Global Forwarding international logistics company will deliver the pizzas and pizza ovens to bases in Afghanistan where the pizza will be cooked fresh and served hot for the soldiers.

?The pizza makes them feel like they are still a part of home,? Bock said. ?They still get to enjoy the things we are enjoying at home.?

Bock said many Uno customers have come to the restaurant because of the food they ate while in the service.

?Some customers come in because they had it over there,? she said. ?It?s quite emotional for them to come in.?

To purchase a coupon book and help Pizzas 4 Patriots send 10,000 pizzas overseas for Super Bowl Sunday, stop in to any Uno Chicago Grill such as the one at 1162 Hurffville Road in Deptford, call 856-853-7003 or visit www.unos.com.
