Some of you will remember that i have posted somewhere that i wanted to inlay some bling on my workbench.

Well this has been on the to do list for some time and so i finallly got er done.

Here is how it came out after try number 2.

Used all sorts of tools to get it this close. Its not perfect, but will do for bench bling.

The wood is bloodwood and i made the inlay around 4 millimeters thick.

After glueing it in i decided to clean up my benchtop to flatten the whole lot together again,. what with working on all sorts on that bench it needed a clean up.

Then i finally got another thing done and tried it out. I been meaning to finish off adding my deadman, only two pieces of wood to add but its taken me years to get er done.

Sure makes a difference, i can see now where a leg vise can play a role and good place for hold down storage.

Never got a shot of it but also secured the wooden cross bars for the bottom shelf. They have been lying loose for a few years while i decided if they were going to stay or not. Guess the decision was made.

So my bench is finally finished at least for now.

Decker was blanketed by rookie corner Omar Bolden but the receiver turned as the ball was at his head, fell back and made a terrific catch as he landed on his backside. Score!

Okay, I understand it is the early stages of training camp. That being said, it is hard to question what Manning can do on the football field when healthy. Couple that with the fact that Decker produced solid statistics with Tim Tebow at quarterback in 2011, and you have the makings for something special here.

A 1,000-yard, double-digit touchdown season from Decker definitely isn't out of the realm of possibility in 2012.

Kansas Man Threatens Utility Worker With Baseball Bat

A suburban Kansas City man could face criminal charges after using a baseball bat to threaten a utility worker who was preparing to cut off his electricity.

The Olathe, Kan., man confronted a Westar employee at 10:30 a.m. Thursday but never swung the bat.

While Missouri has rules preventing utilities from cutting the power of delinquent customers during extremely hot or cold weather, Kansas has no such restrictions.

The man says he was upset because he has three children who live in the home and it was very hot and muggy Thursday morning.

The utility worker fled the scene and called police. The man paid his bill and kept his electricity.

The case has been turned over to the Johnson County District Attorney's office for possible charges.

?Of course, I?m glad to be back,? McKinnie said. ?I?m kind of disappointed, though. ?I?ve been training hard, I?ve been boxing and doing all this stuff. To have a setback like this is disappointing.

?Why isn?t anybody saying I got hurt? I don?t know what people thought was going on. How I got hurt is running out of the house. It was slippery and I fell and hurt my lower back. You can?t be playing football when your back is hurting. When I fell, I said, ?I know I ain?t going out like this.??

McKinnie?s bewilderment at anyone wondering where he was ignores one significant point: With him, it?s always something.

The Vikings ran him off for being overweight, and he?s worked to get that under control with the Ravens. But they?ve moved Michael Oher to left tackle for the moment, and may be inclined to leave him there, if McKinnie can?t get on the field and do something.

House Ways and Means chairman fighting cancer

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The chairman of the House's tax-writing committee says he's been diagnosed with a "very early, highly treatable and curable type" of cancer.

GOP Rep. Dave Camp of Michigan says in a statement that doctors found non-Hodgkin lymphoma during a recent physical. Camp says he'll continue in Congress and retain his committee chairmanship during chemotherapy.

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a cancer that begins in the cells of the immune system. The 57-year-old Camp says he has large B-cell lymphoma. B-cells are a type of white blood cell that helps fight infections.

Camp, who's served since 1991, has said he wants to combine a push to head off pending tax increases with ways to force Congress to revamp the tax code next year.

Apple rumored to be considering investment in Twitter

Apple is rumored to be considering a rather large investment in the popular social network, Twitter. The investment would be in the hundreds of millions of dollars, and could push Twitter from an $8.5 billion valuation to $10. Evelyn M. Rusli and Nick Bilton, writing for the The New York Times, report:

There is no guarantee that the two companies, which are not in negotiations at the moment, will come to an agreement. But the earlier talks are a sign that they may form a stronger partnership amid intensifying competition from the likes of Google and Facebook.

Never the less, the Times also reports that the Apple relationship is so important to Twitter, they've appointed a vice-president, Kevin Thau, to work with Apple full time. Twitter integration was brought to the iPhone and iPad with iOS 5 and increased with iOS 6, which also added Twitter to Notification, and added Facebook integration into the mix. Just this week Twitter also debuted on the Mac with OS X Mountain Lion update's deeper social media integration.

Given that level of integration, it only makes sense for Apple to explore a stake in Twitter. Apple traditionally doesn't like being dependent on technology it doesn't control. It only makes sense Apple would want influence over Twitter's direction -- especially if any competitor ever looked like they might be making a move towards a similar investment, or a buyout.

Likewise, Apple has proven less than adept at trying to spawn their own social media network, namely Ping and integrated a successful network like Ping could be a better strategy, just as Apple CEO, Tim Cook suggested during Apple's Q2 2012 earning call.

Apple doesn?t have to own a social network, but does Apple need to be social? Yes.

Apple's relationship with Facebook has been up and down over the years, though Facebook integration is coming to both OS X and iOS this fall. Google has been making a huge push into social with Google+, yet they also compete with Apple in smartphone and tablets, namely, Android.

Would a more intertwined Apple and Twitter be a good thing? It probably wouldn't prevent Twitter working with rival platforms any more than Microsoft's investment in Facebook prevents Facebook from working with Apple. With $117 billion in the bank, Apple wouldn't miss a few hundred million for Twitter. Would it make you feel more secure about Twitter features not going anywhere? Or should Apple keep trying to do their own social thing?

UPDATE: Apple's talks with Twitter apparently occurred over a year ago, no talks are currently underway. That, according to Shira Ovide and Jessica E. Vascellaro at The Wall Street Journal and their "little birdies".

People close to Twitter have said the San Francisco company is ahead of 2012 revenue projections laid out last year. Twitter has largely ruled out acquisitions as it builds its business for a potential initial public offering in a year or so.

Doing nothing of course isn?t going to move you on at all and things are going to stay the same if you never make a change.? So today, have a think about the project that you feel you should be doing (except you?re not) and be really honest as you ask yourself these questions:

What is the downside of getting this done?

Brazil public sector demands stymie Rousseff's cost-control push

RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Brazil's civil servants haven't gotten President Dilma Rousseff's message.

A slowing economy, dwindling tax revenue and falling demand for the country's commodity exports mean the government must tighten its belt, she argues. But customs workers, university professors and myriad other federal employees are staging strikes across the country, pushing for salary increases worth 92 billion reais ($45.3 billion).

On Thursday, Brazil's statistics agency, normally a clockwork conveyor of economic data, postponed the release of June unemployment figures because of striking statisticians.

So far, the protests fall shy of the mass walkouts that once paralyzed Latin America's biggest economy. But the strikes are a growing headache for Rousseff at a time when she sees unexpected increases in state spending as counter to her current priority: reviving Brazil's stagnant economy.

"This is a direct challenge to her stated objective," said Alberto Almeida, a political analyst at the Instituto Analise, a research firm in Sao Paulo. "It's not likely she'll be willing to cede much."

Unlike many of her predecessors, Rousseff so far has preferred to limit increases in government spending as a means to stimulate economic growth. Instead, she is hoping fiscal restraint will allow Brazil's central bank to keep the country's historically high interest rates at their current lows - stimulating not just demand in the short term, but accessible credit in years ahead.

Public sector unions, however, say the government should make an exception for salaries.

Their strikes began in May, when professors at federal universities walked out. Since then, other employees have followed suit, crippling services and staging noisy protests along the grassy esplanade between the domino-like ranks of ministry buildings in the capital Brasilia, and outside government offices nationwide.

Their demands amount to half the government's existing salary obligations, according to Brazil's planning ministry, or just under 2 percent of the country's economy.

The unions argue that recent raises for some civil servants don't reflect the bonanza that led to average annual growth of more than 4 percent over much of the past decade. The growth, which catapulted 30 million Brazilians out of poverty, also swelled public coffers, with government revenues nearly tripling from 2003 to 2011.

But the push for higher salaries comes as Brazil's economy has screeched to a near halt. The crisis in Europe, uncertainty elsewhere, and a slowdown in China and other big buyers of commodity exports have eroded confidence among Brazilian businesses and crippled investment in the economy.

A TRAP FOR ROUSSEFF

After gangbuster growth of 7.5 percent in 2010, the economy grew by just 2.7 percent in 2011. This year, economists are forecasting growth of as low as 1.5 percent.

With the slowdown, tax revenues are down, dropping by more than 6 percent in June from the year-earlier period. The falling revenues, and growing pressures from opposition lawmakers for costly earmarks, are causing many economists to question whether Brazil will hit longstanding budget targets.

"There's a trap in front of the Planalto," newspaper O Globo said in a Thursday editorial, referring to demonstrations near Rousseff's office. "Just when fiscal responsibility is the only vaccine available."

Already, Rousseff has buckled to some of the demands of professors, whom she believes should in fact earn more, according to people familiar with the negotiations. She remains reluctant to make further concessions, though, especially considering uncertainty around tax revenues for next year.

Part of her strategy, government officials say, is to leverage the public perception that federal employees are already better paid than many private-sector peers. Because of a recent transparency law, many federal salaries, like those of well-paid workers at Brazil's regulatory agencies, are in the process of being disclosed for the first time.

During two terms as president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Rousseff's champion and predecessor, greatly expanded the size of Brazil's federal workforce.

Hoping to improve public services, he increased the federal headcount by more than 15 percent to more than half a million, according to official data. Personnel spending grew by an average of 11 percent annually during the period.

When Rousseff took office last year, she quickly had to downshift, as the economy showed clear signs of slowing by mid-2011. Though annual raises are built into the contracts of most civil servants, spending on personnel last year climbed by only 7.7 percent - barely more than inflation for the year.

Given the soaring tax revenues of recent years and healthy raises for some specialized civil servants, public sector unions began demanding across-the-board increases for all.

"Many civil servants haven't shared fully in Brazil's recent economic growth," said Vagner Freitas de Moraes, president of CUT, a big labor group that includes public sector unions. "This is like planting a seed, but then not watering the plant."

MISSED TARGETS?

Further concessions would drive Brazil farther away from its so-called primary surplus target, a measure of budgetary funds left over at year-end that excludes payments on debt. For more than a decade, the measure has been an anchor of Brazil's commitment to balanced public books.

Many economists are worried that Brazil could miss the 2012 target, equal to 3.1 percent of gross domestic product.

"Brazil's fiscal framework is poised to get worse," said Monica Baumgarten de Bolle, a professor at Rio's Pontifical Catholic University. "How bad it's going to be will depend on how anxious the government is to foster economic growth."

Since May, the government has forgone billions of reais in revenue by giving tax breaks to stimulate consumer demand. The measures, designed to be temporary, continue to be renewed as the economy so far has failed to respond.

Economists believe Rousseff may soften next year's primary target of nearly 156 billion reais to allow for infrastructure investments needed to host the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics.

Still, Brazil's finances remain in far better shape than those of many developed countries. So while a missed target would create buzz, it's unlikely to scare away crucial foreign investment.

Robert Downey Jr. is the most valuable movie star?in Hollywood, combining box-office success in both action films and comedies with wide critical acclaim, audience likeability and studio-head bankability, according to Vulture's latest study. The??Iron Man? star?s Hollywood supremacy is the result of a recent, rather in-depth statistical study. While it may sound complicated, we're here to break it down for you.

Vulture, with the help of The Guardian?s statistician Harry Enten, set eight categories with which to quantify a star?s Hollywood value. This includes?studio value (five top studio heads were asked who they?d cast with a sure-fire script in hand), which?was given the lion?s share of importance in the calculations, but the study also factored in box-office numbers, Oscar wins and nominations, critics? score based on Metacritic?and appeareances on magazine covers.

Downey Jr., who has risen from substance abuse and prison time to become one of the biggest names in Hollywood, has chosen his roles wisely. He staged his comeback by showing off mounds of charisma in 2008?s ?Iron Man,? then cleverly followed the successful superhero film?with his genuinely enjoyable performances in ?Tropic Thunder,? ?Due Date? and his pair of ?Sherlock Holmes? movies. Since his dark days, he?s graced the covers of 12 major magazines (including GQ, Rolling Stone and Men?s Vogue), proving that moviegoers are genuinely interested in his personal life and success story. ?

While Downey Jr. takes the top spot, Will Smith, Johnny Depp, Denzel Washington and Brad Pitt round out the top five. (The highest ranking woman is Angelina Jolie, who comes in at No. 8 on Vulture?s list.) But it?s Will Smith who reigns supreme as the most likeable actor in Hollywood, according to Vulture?s audience polls, and he?s also the most consistent international moneymaker.

There are a few oddities in the rankings though. The relatively new Jennifer Lawrence is only 21 years old, but she managed to snag the No. 16 spot thanks to her brilliant mix of critically acclaimed films and box-office hits. ?Winter?s Bone? earned her an Oscar nomination. ?X-Men: First Class? and ?The Hunger Games? put her in good graces with studio heads, affirmed her presence as a major box-office draw, and gave her two blockbuster series? to bank on for years to come.

On the other side of the surprise spectrum is Ryan Reynolds. Even though he created a blockbuster romantic comedy alongside Sandra Bullock in 2009?s ?The Proposal? and was People?s Sexiest Man Alive in 2010, he still hangs out at No. 75, below even the 66-year-old Sylvester Stallone. The 35-year-old can thank his last two films -- the superhero box-office disaster ?Green Lantern? and critical failure ?The Change-Up? -- for this abysmal position. (Perhaps his A-list status was prematurely given.)

While Downey Jr. may not be the most respected actor in Hollywood (that?s Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep territory), the most likeable or even the most bankable, he?s still No. 1 when stats are crunched and polls are taken. The numbers don?t lie.

Top Five Sports Cameras For The Olympics

With the London 2012 Olympics almost upon us it?s time for the talking to stop and the competition to begin. And, of course, for anyone lucky enough to have tickets it?s also an opportunity to witness sporting history in the making. All the more reason to ensure you?ve got the right camera with you then. Ideally it?ll be something that can keep up with the action and capture great quality images of all the best moments ? whether it?s the opening ceremony, the 100m final or the women?s beach volleyball tournament. With that in mind here are four key things to think about when selecting the ideal Olympic camera:

1) Zoom range
While many compacts and superzooms come with fixed zoom lenses that offer a reasonably versatile focal length range, compact system cameras (CSCs) and Digital SLRs use interchangeable lenses that tend to offer much narrower focal ranges. So if you?re looking to buy a DSLR or CSC try to leave enough room in your budget for a telephoto zoom - something like a 70-200mm - otherwise you may well find that your 18-55mm kit zoom ends up making the athletes look more like ants.

As for going with a compact camera of some description, the ones to look out for are the so called ?travel compacts? or superzooms. Superzooms do exactly what they say on the tin, although their 30x (and beyond) zooms often result in a camera of almost DSLR-like proportions, without the DSLR image quality. If you want something smaller then a typical travel compact will pack a 20x zoom into a camera not much bigger than a regular pocket compact.

2) Continuous shooting speed
Professional photographers at the Games will almost all be using top-of-the-range DLSRs (primarily Nikon D4 and Canon 1Dx models) with continuous shooting speeds of 10-14fps. While you probably don?t need quite that much speed, having a camera that can record a quick-fire burst of consecutive images could make all the difference between capturing the perfect moment and just missing it.

Given how in sport things tend to happen in the blink of an eye, you?ll ideally want something that can manage around 4-5fps, if not more, at its highest quality setting. There are of course exceptions, although as a rule cameras that use sensors with higher resolutions tend to shoot slower than cameras sporting lower resolution sensors. That said, image processors have come a long way in recent years, with some of the best examples now able to process large file sizes very quickly.

Also look out for cameras, like the Nikon 1 range, that offer a pre-record function where the camera starts taking snaps (or video) before you even press the button.

3) AF performance
Having a camera with speedy AutoFocus performance gives you a much better chance of capturing the moment before it?s gone. If, on the other hand, you?re watching your camera zoom in and out of focus as the AF module struggles to lock on chances are you?ll either miss the action completely or get impatient, press the shutter release before the camera?s properly focused and end up with a set of blurred images. And you really don?t want that.

Because compacts, superzooms and CSCs contain no internal mirror or optical pentaprism they have to use contrast-detect AF technology. Until recently this was considered slower than the phase-detection AF technology employed by DSLRs. In recent years however some CSC manufacturers (we?re thinking primarily of Olympus and Panasonic/Lumix) have challenged this with some very speedy contrast-detect cameras indeed. Sony too has upped the ante with its Single Lens Translucent (SLT) technology that essentially splits the light entering the camera into two with part going to a dedicated AF sensor and part going to the main imaging sensor.

Want to capture the right person at the right moment? You'll need top notch AF performance to do the job.

4) Movie modes
While taking a great photo is still the best way to capture a scene in the most detailed and emotional way, it's only with video that you can truly relive those moments. For this reason you?ll find HD video recording comes as standard on just about all cameras ? even budget compacts.

What?s important though is to understand that not all HD is the same, with the lesser 720p HD found on cheaper compacts bettered by 1080p Full HD. Watch out for framerates too; a higher framerate will capture fast action much smoother than a low one.

In addition to HD movie recording, one additional feature that might be worth looking out for is High-speed movie recording. This basically enables you to shoot movies at a super high framerate (think 60, 120, or even 240fps), which can then be played back in slow motion. You do have to compromise on image quality and resolution (often as low as 320 x 240pixels) but if you want to learn the technique secrets of your favourite athletes, there's no better way.
